Sign at Mantua Reservoir that indicates the level of concern over Harmful Algal Blooms. The arrow is pointed to "Warning"

Two signs created to help residents make more informed choices about getting into the water were recently installed at Mantua Reservoir. The signs were provided by Bear River Health Department and installed by Brigham City employees at the top of the boat ramp and at the newer beach.

Designed in the style of the "Risk of Forest Fire" signs, they have an arrow that staff will move when there is a change in the presence of Harmful Algal Blooms, or HABs, in the water.

Please note that while Brigham City employees update the status on these signs, we don't decide what that status is. The Health Department and the State of Utah conduct testing and monitoring and they make those decisions.

In order for a status to be reduced, there have to be two consecutive testing periods of lower testing results, and results are often about a week behind testing. This means the status indicated on the sign may not accurately represent the current presence of HABs or the severity of them.
