Brigham City Police Department is offering a free 9-week course to citizens curious about what it's really like to be a police officer. The course will take place Wednesday nights at 6pm beginning July 10. Classes will last 2-3 hours depending on the topic.

Participants must be 18 or older, must register by calling 435-734-6650, and must undergo a background check.

The planned schedule includes:

Week 1: Welcome and Introduction (tour of the Police Department, Dispatch, and the Box Elder County Jail)
Week 2: Patrol Situations and Response (Utah Criminal Code; constitutional rights; use of force; arrest control)
Week 3: Investigations (interview and interrogations; crime scene investigation)
Week 4: Traffic Enforcement (traffic stops; high risk traffic stops; citations; radar; pursuits)
Week 5: Tactical Assets (SWAT team; K9)
Week 6: Domestic Violence (practical exercise scenarios)
Week 7: Use of Force (scenarios; deadly force lecture)
Week 8: Court and Legal (discussion with Judge Christensen)
Week 9: Graduation dinner and ceremony
