New Winter Parking Ordinance
The Brigham City Council approved a new winter parking ordinance on December 7, 2023. It is now prohibited to park on the street between the hours of midnight and 6 am, from November 1 to March 15. In addition, vehicles and trailers may not be parked on the street during or for 24 hours after a snowfall event.
Why was the ordinance adopted?
The previous parking ordinance was unclear, which made it difficult to enforce. The new ordinance has clear language and clear enforcement mechanisms.
What changed?
- Vehicles and trailers may not be left on the street for more than 48 hours. The previous ordinance said 72 hours.
- From November 1 to March 15, it is now prohibited to park on the street between the hours of midnight and 6:00 a.m. Previously, there was no prohibition on overnight parking.
What stays the same?
Vehicles and trailers may not be parked on the street during snowfall or for 24 hours after snow stops falling.
What happens if I violate the ordinance?
Violation of the ordinance is an infraction, which will result in a fine. The first cited offense is a $50 fine; the second is $100. At the third violation, the vehicle may be impounded.
What if I don't have off-street parking?
The mayor or his designee can make exceptions for addresses that don't have off-street parking available.
